Lexicon of Elastomer Technology

(A-Z)

What is NBR?

NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) is one of the most commonly used elastomers for seals exposed to oils, greases and fuels. It combines good abrasion resistance with cost-effective performance.

Properties

  • Temperature range approximately -30 °C to +100 °C
  • Excellent resistance to oils and fuels
  • Good abrasion resistance
  • Good mechanical properties
  • Cost-effective material

Typical applications

  • O-rings
  • Shaft seals
  • Hydraulic seals
  • Pneumatic seals
  • Fuel systems

Limitations

Not suitable for ozone, UV exposure, weathering or hot water.
